All Bands

The North Shore Primary School Concert Band Festival will feature the music of Composer Barrie Gott.  Barrie will be our special guest for the weekend; working with our young musicians, adjudicating and workshopping Bands.

I have invited Barrie to compose the set piece for the A Grade Bands, especially for the occasion.  This will be exciting for our musicians as it will be premiered at Chatswood High School on Sunday September 19.

The Festival will be in five sections. Here is the timetable:

CB2 C Grade (Level 1.5) – Friday September 17, 5pm-7pm

Training Band Novice (Level .5) – Saturday September 18, 1pm-2pm or 2.30pm-3.30pm

CB1 B Grade (Level 2) – Saturday September 18, 5pm-7pm

D Grade (Level 1) – Sunday September 19, 1pm-2pm or 2.30pm-3.30pm

A Grade (Level 2.5) – Sunday September 19, 5pm- 7pm

Bands will be required to perform 3 pieces:

• a set work by Barrie Gott
• two own choice pieces of that standard.

James Brice from Knox Grammar has also been invited to assist with adjudication.

The set pieces for each Grade are as follows:

Novice – ‘Rock Point 5’ (Gott)

D Grade – ‘Mango Tango’ (Gott)

C Grade – ‘Stanley River Overture’ (Gott)

B Grade – ‘The Crown and the Glory’ (Gott)

A Grade – ‘In Memorium’ (Gott) - newly commissioned work.

All pieces can be purchased from Dicksons’ Music.  The newly commissioned work for A Grade Bands will be available from early May.

At the Festival we will invite all young musicians to answer questions about theirs’ and another Bands’ performance; a report. They will be rewarded for their responses. Musicians will be expected to attend for the duration of their section.
