Canteen - about

CANTEEN NEWS TERM 4

Good To Go - GONE

Unfortunately our supplier is no longer able to provide the Good To Go yoghurt drinks any more. AND Hot chocolate drinks are only available in Terms 2 & 3.

Recess snacks

Mini pies and chicken tenders are no longer sold at recess (they are still available with a lunch order). Children may buy half hot cheese rolls ($1), quarter toasties (various types incl cheese, ham & tomato - 30 cents each), fresh fruit (from 20cents for an orange quarter) and frozen fruit (pineapple, watermelon and orange (20c - 50c each), banana bread as well as the usual variety of packet snacks, gingerbread men, bread sticks, etc.

Foreign coins

We do not accept foreign coins, and neither does the bank! These coins will be returned on the lunch order and food item/s removed from the order if this affects the total owed! please save your coins for overseas holidays!!

Late orders

Each day we open the shutters at lunchtime to see (sometimes many) children who have forgotten to put their lunch order in. This causes all sorts of problems at the busiest time of the day, especially when we are under-staffed! Could you please remind your child to drop their order off as soon as they get to school. If the order is received after 10.15am, we will only be able to offer a choice of the following: a chicken noodle pot or a sandwich or roll. Very late lunch orders will be offered either a chicken noodle pot or a cheese roll (if available). On occasions we could also offer another hot food item such as a mini pie or chicken tender, depending on availability on the day. If your child has forgotten their lunch, the Canteen will be able to offer the same choice as for late orders.

Forgotten recess

If your child has no food for recess, we will offer them an apple slinky and/or some bread sticks. An invoice will then be sent home with the child. Prompt payment is appreciated.

Frozen items in lunch orders

Frozen items CANNOT BE ORDERED with the lunch order as they will melt before the children can eat them. Please give your child money to buy these over the counter. If your child has ordered a frozen item as part of their lunch order, we will tape their change to the order bag so they may return to the canteen to buy it later....but this is time-consuming!

LEPS CANTEEN - ABOUT US

The LEPS Canteen operates five days a week and serves morning tea, prepares lunches and provides after lunch counter sales for our students and staff.

The Canteen is staffed by paid co-ordinators (one each day) and rostered parent volunteers.  Please consider offering your help in the Canteen.  It is a great way to meet other parents while helping the school.

A roster is issued each term and a reminder of volunteers for the following week is included in the Lyrebird.

The P and C website includes a Canteen section which includes the menu and provides up to date information about specials and menu changes.

LUNCH ORDERS

How to order

Please use a paper bag or a plastic insulated lunch bag available from the Uniform Shop.  The Canteen sells paper bags for 5 cents each.

If you are ordering hot food plus a drink, please provide two paper bags (name on each), as cold drinks in the same bag make the hot food cold and soggy.

1st bag:  WRITE CLEARLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BAG:
Name, Class and food order (& drink order)

2nd bag:  WRITE CLEARLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BAG:
Name, Class and drink/cold order

List all items and prices required in the order, and enclose the money inside the bag (please do not tape or staple it on), then fold it several times to stop the money falling out.  Please include the correct money if possible.  If this is not available, change is taped onto the outside of the bag.  Please ask your child to look for this.

Correct change is appreciated as the canteen cannot be responsible for any lost change.

NO FOREIGN CURRENCY or LARGE AMOUNTS OF 5 CENT PIECES THANK YOU

Up to date menu

The current menu is available on the P and C website

Where to leave the order

All lunch orders should be placed in the box on the Canteen counter by 10.00 am each day.

Forgotten or late lunch orders

Lunch orders delivered to the Canteen after 10.00 am that require hot food sometimes cannot be done.  Your child will usually be given a choice of a cheese or vegemite sandwich or a chicken noodlepot, or sometimes other hot items such as mini meat pies if they are available.

Any child who has forgotten their lunch should come to the Canteen asap.  Lunch will be provided and an invoice sent home with the child.

Early Lunch Orders - Primary

Please don’t forget to mark the bag “EARLY SPORT” (please include your sport) on Friday if applicable. Training Band students should write “BAND” on their orders on Wednesdays.

Note:  no hot food can be ordered on Friday for early sport (Terms 3 & 4). The exception is sweet chilli/chicken tenders as part of a wrap.

Collecting Lunch orders

K-2   - Lunch order baskets are collected from the canteen by class representatives and taken to the eating area.

Primary - Children with orders come to the canteen to collect their class lunch baskets.

For safety reasons, Noodlepots, Nachos Dippers and hot chocolates must be collected from the canteen by the child who has ordered it.

If a child goes home after 10.00am, then unfortunately we can only refund the money for drinks or snacks ordered.

Mistakes sometimes happen! If there is something wrong with your child’s lunch order PLEASE tell them to come and see us and we can usually correct it.  If they are shy, tell them to bring a friend.

VOLUNTEERS

sandwich

The Canteen can only run with parent/friend volunteer assistance. If you can spare some time please consider putting your name on our roster as we really need help. If you are rostered on and are unable to work please try to arrange a swap before contacting the canteen manager.

Your day in the Canteen can be as varied as you like.  You could be counting money and checking orders, making sandwiches and wraps, baking potatoes, creating a fried rice, stocking shelves, serving the children…all at the same time as chatting with other parents! We provide you with a healthy lunch and a cuppa, and your children love to come up and see a familiar face serving them. On your rostered day, your child may come to the canteen door (but not inside the canteen) rather than waiting in the queue.

If you are not be able to commit to be with us for a full day, please consider a half day! Or let us know if you would like to be on our Emergency List. If you would like to help your child’s school by giving some time to the Canteen, please complete a volunteer form and leave it at the Canteen.

CANTEEN RULES AND REMINDERS FOR STUDENTS

  • Frozen items cannot be ordered with the lunch order as they will melt before the children can eat them.  Please give your child money to buy these over the counter.
  • Recess specials cannot be ordered.

  • The area just outside the canteen is out of bounds for play.  You should only be there if you are in the queue.
  • If it is a sport or Band Day, please mark this on the lunch bag so that lunch will be prepared at the appropriate time.
